Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, an honor that is rarely allowed in any film or film production, especially an American one
Tale
In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler lands a prestigious job she’s unprepared for, with tectonic consequences for her marriage and political future. The producers convinced the US and British governments to allow them to use real locations as filming locations for the series, including the still-recent US Embassy (at Nine Elms), which opened in 2018.
Appeared at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024)
The only off-limits location was Winfield House, the actual residence of the US ambassador. Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 hectares) in London outside of Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes.
I’m glad I did because it was great
I have to admit, I wasn’t planning on watching The Diplomat, but after hearing so many great things about it and reading all the great reviews, I thought I’d give it a shot. I’m really surprised at how much I liked it.
Got me fired up from the first episode
Although Keri Russell was great in The Americans, I thought it was more about the writing than her acting, so I wasn’t sure if she and Rufus Sewell could carry the show as leads, but they definitely did, they’re both fantastic here. The chemistry between them is what makes this show so good.
