At the end of World War II, Nathan Hilu, the son of Syrian Jews who had immigrated to New York, was given a life-changing mission by the U.S. Army to protect top Nazi war criminals at the Nuremberg trials. The experience would fuel a lifetime of artistic inspiration for Nathan, a virtually unknown “outsider artist,” who would spend the next 70 years working in art.
